There are tiny bits of fabric placed like a collage and each are sewn down to create this scene.  The brown and white cow is resting in the foreground among a golden field.  The light blue ocean is in the background with white foam.  Patchwork mountain in the background, with a cypress tree peering along the side.  This textile piece has satin, silk and various cotton fabrics. Wool, and silk threads accent this artwork along with various beads.  I make these miniature quilts in the same traditional way that a larger quilt is made. There is the front or top piece, the middle cotton batting and the backing piece- they are all sandwiched together and stitched thru all layers.  Most of this is done by machine. the binding and accent pieces are done by hand.  The Top piece is put together with bits and pieces of fabric.  The colors and pieces are placed in a painterly way. Much like a painter would add paint to a canvas, the fabric is added one piece at a time.  All types of fabric are used velvet, wool, satin, silk, cotton and cotton/poly blend.  Threads and strings, beads and buttons are also added to accentuate each piece.  The thread used for the applique is cotton and silk.  This can be hung on the wall or placed on a table as is, or it can be matted and framed.
