Description
kenerrey store JOHN KACERE "REINA" STUNNING ORIGINAL 1979 OIL PAINTING Up for your consideration is a rarely seen original oil painting by the late, great Photorealist John Kacere. This is NOT a limited edition print, this is a one of a kine original oil painting on canvas, in excellent condition by the master himself. Kept in a smoke and pet free home, it measures a full 64 inches by 38 inches (192cm x 96cm), including frame, as you can see in the pic below. Listed in Paul Brach's monograph on John Kacere (see page 101), it is one of the nicest examples of Kacere's famous mature style of lingerie clad women. A limited edition print of this painting was subsequently produced, but original works by John Kacere are extremely rare. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1999, but his work is more popular today than ever. The following is part of Kacere's obituary in the New York Times-"An artist of significance with an international reputation. He was featured in numerous exhibitions, books and periodicals, and was a devoted professor at NYU, Cooper Union, University of New Mexico and others."Kacere continues to influence many artists, including Director Sophia Copolla, as can be seen in her film "Lost in Translation."(From http://www.2blowhards.com/, referring to another, similar Kacere painting)- '"Lost in Translation" fans will notice that this John Kacere painting is remarkably similar to the film's opening shot. In fact, Sofia Coppola freely admits that she got the idea for the shot from looking at Kacere's work. Coppola has also said that, in order to persuade a reluctant Scarlett Johansson to do the shot, she pulled on the see-throughs herself to show Scarlett what they'd look like...Kacere was born in Iowa and started out as an abstract artist. In 1963, he began making paintings of women, often of their midsections...and kept at it until his death in 1999. He explained his work this way: "Woman is the source of all life, the source of regeneration. My work praises that aspect of womanhood." Also, the painting in Johansson's character Charlotte's hotel room in Tokyo is Kacere's "Jutta" (1973).Kacere's stunning technique and incredible detail simply mesmerizes. The large size of this work commands attention. His work is in the permanent collections of museums around the world, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYC), Stedeljlk Museum (Amsterdam), the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisio, among others. If you've been waiting for a chance to own a true masterpiece of Photorealism by one of the genre's most popular and timeless artists, this is your chance. Please ask all questions before bidding.
