As the sacred center of a traditional Japanese home, tokonomas were reserved for treasured items like scrolls or calligraphy, beautiful kimonos, ikebana flower arrangements, miniature bonsai trees, and fine ceramics for tea ceremonies. The items displayed were changed for special occasions, according to the season, or to create different settings and atmospheres.   Note color and detail of the gingko leaves, embroidered decorative stitches in gold metallic thread, and black web-like patterning on the purple fabric.   Embroidered decorative stitches vertically in gold and horizontally in variegated gold & silver metallic thread. Feng Shui I Ching coin. Feng Shui - I Ching Coin. Like a Feng Shui Bagua (also Bagwa, or Pa Kua) the coin is octagonal in shape and marked with the 8 trigrams from the Book of Change or I Ching. The Yin-Yang symbol located in the middle represents universal opposite energies in harmony.   Artist Statement Award-winning & self-taught artist Linda M. Olszanski specializes in creating Quilt Art collages that portray metaphorical imagery inspired by nature and science. Linda composes improvisational styled collage quilts with a variety of fabrics, threads, and embellishments.
