Because it is not protected within a frame all sales are final.This is a spectacular original signed and numbered limited edition color print by internationally acclaimed artist CARLOS ALMARAZ (1941- 1989). Carlos Almaraz was born in Mexico City in 1941, and spent his youth in Chicago, Illinois before moving to Los Angeles at the age of ten. He attended UCLA, The Art Students League in New York and earned a Master's Degree at the Otis Art Institute in 1974. Carlos Almaraz moved to New York City to continue his studies and to establish himself as an American artist. Upon his return to Los Angeles Almaraz formed a group called Los Four with fellow artists Gilbert Lujan, Frank Romero, and Roberto de la Roche, and together they brought Chicano street art to the attention of the world and were the first Latino art collective to exhibit at a major art museum. He was a beloved leader of the Chicano Art Movement and worked with Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers Union as well as organized several arts collectives and mural movements during the 1970's before returning to his studio in 1980 to commit himself to his personal artistic voice which earned him much international acclaim. He is best known for his paintings, pastels, and prints and is in many fine public and private collections worldwide which include the collection of Jack Nicholson, Cheech Marin, Steve Tish and Bruce Springsteen. He has exhibited in many major art museums throughout the world and at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (1974, 1990, 2008) Almaraz’ work can be viewed in museum and corportate collections internationally. Carlos Almaraz died of AIDS in 1989 and is the subject of a documentary film on his life and work that is presently in production. To learn more about the film go to www.carlosalmaraz.com
