Living in Paris for most of his career, Cappiello, who was self-taught, began as a caricaturist and escalated to the early 20th century’s most acclaimed European poster artist. Cappiello made his name during the poster boom period in the early 20th century with designs markedly different from premier poster artists of his day.  Between 1901 and 1914, he created several hundred posters in a style that revolutionized the art of poster design. He was the first poster artist to use bold figures popping out of black backgrounds, a startling contrast to the early norm.   Cleverly linking products with vivid, memorable images, he produced 1,000 imaginative posters for beverages, ballet, literature, plays, travel and music halls over four decades. Leading the Art Deco movement, Cappiello’s techniques are still vital to modern advertising.  Today, his original posters are highly collectible, sold at auctions and private galleries around the world.   **** For a limited time, Microsoft is offering discounts of up to 30% (maximum $200 per transaction) on items purchased on Ebay using the Buy it Now feature.
