The subject of cotton balls with glass sphere was also used in a painting - "Soft Sell" - that I did a few postings back.  It could be viewed on my blog The Art Fly or may still be on my ebay store.Silverpoint is a Renaissance-era drawing medium that pre-dates the pencil.  The artist uses a silver stylus on a coated surface that slightly abrades the silver wire.
